Wallaby Ranch had another visitor from the Today Show, it was the shows co-host, Matt Lauer. Matt arrived with his wife in a helicopter, ready to fly hang gliders. It sounds like Matt and Al Roker both had a great time at the Ranch because they told Malcolm that they would be returning with their families.

Now that there is snow on the ground it's time to get out the skis. Soon there should be at least three trikes equipped with skis out at the Island.

Wallaby Ranch will be featured on the Today show, Tuesday, December 11, 2007. Al Roker went to Florida to visit Wallaby Ranch, and our good friend Malcolm Jones, the owner of the Ranch, took Al on his first tandem hang gliding flight. The show airs tuesday morning at 7:00-9:00, remember to set the Tivo.

Hello Aviation Enthusiasts,

Last month nine of Crow Islands sport aviators got together at John Amann's house where we had or first official club meeting. The first order of business was to establish a name for the club. After a brief discussion the name was put to a vote and the winner was Crow Island Aviators (CIA).
Many topics were discussed including fire extinguishers, portable toilet, flying activities, noise abatement and club dues .

Our next meeting will be held this friday Dec. 7th at 7:00 pm. in Rob Albright,s barn, Stow, MA.
Anyone interested in sport aviation is welcome to attend.

Thanks,
Tabor Coates

Crow Island Aviators.......... No gasoline is to be stored at Crow Island
Rob is having some issues with the town right now and below are a few new rules.......... I know we do not like new rules; but we need to do a few things to manage risk to Crow Island and our ability to enjoy our flying their.

Per Rob

1. No Gasoline is to be stored in any containers at Island.
So when you need to gas up, bring your container, carefully fill your plane and take the container back home with you.

No antifreeze, No gear oil, no petroleum products or potentially hazardous chemicals are to be stored anywhere at Crow Island.

Any containers found having such substances will be removed.

We went thru both large hangers today and removed all such items and have placed them in the locked little hanger.

Aviators have till Sunday at 9am to collect their "gasoline and Chemicals. After 9am on Sunday we will remove all remaining containers in the little hanger.

2. Extra attention to housekeeping is needed.

This means if you get a new wing, you need to take the responsibility and dispose of the cardboard, crate, rubbish etc.

3. The railroad gates are to be locked at all times; this means whether you are coming or leaving you need to lock the gates each way and each time.

4. Special attention must be given to the "no fly zone" to the houses to the west. This is an absolute must.

If you have any questions, call Rob at his cell or home or me at 978-407-1066.

Thanks for your help in Keeping Crow Island a great place,

Eric

Hope everyone will be able to attend our 1st CIA meeting this
Saturday. I think Arvin did a good job putting together an an initial
agenda. If there are any other topics and/or issues that anyone wants
to discuss send Arvin an email so he can include it. One topic I would
like to see is who's interested in in going to SUN-N-FUN this April in
Florida. Now is probably a good time to start looking for flights and
hotels.

See ya Saturday at 7PM..

Hi all. I just read John’s (AKA RED BARON) e-mail about next weeks first club meeting. So I have decided to write this e-mail and give you all an opportunity to add anything you think worthy to our first meetings agenda. Please note that the agenda I am presenting and those items you wish to add are only a start and if the majority at the meeting thinks the item untimely or irrelevant we can quickly proceed to the next.

So here are my ideas.

1. Finalize vote for club name. (anyone note able to attend should send a note to our secretary Tabor Coates with his or her vote) I believe using write in votes should be allowed.

2. Vote on club dues a. if needed b. how much c. when collected d. what funds to be used for.

3. Set up a safety board. As Crow island gets more and more pilots and aircraft I believe this will be a crucial issue.

4. Set up a fun board to come up with club fly-ins , trips , weekend contests (bomb drops , landing etc) or anything else we can think up.

5. Decide if we wish to pursue any affiliations with EAA APOA etc

6. Decide how long elected club officers stay in office and set dates for voting.

Above are some of the issues I feel need to be addressed please feel free to add your own or just bring them with you at the meeting. I believe a club at Crow Island can make our flying experience safer and more enjoyable. I just read a recent article in one of the flying magazines about a guy who had gotten a sport pilots license then found he was loosing interest. Then a group got together for the purpose of weekend flights

which renewed this guys interest and now enjoys flying more then ever. This is the kind of thing that makes having a club fun and worth having.

Sincerely

Arvin Cook

This is a picture of Larry Hornebake and Gary Brown who came up from PA a few weeks ago to get their Sport Pilot endorsements. The weather cooperated and really had a great time flying with them.

After getting the thumbs up from Rob, Rick Framil took his first solo flight around the pattern today, I'm sure we'll see Rick flying his own Cosmos trike before long.

Joe Sullivan started taking flying lessons this spring, bought his trike this summer and now he is flying solo. Joe does not have the use of his legs, however with the help of his modified trike he flys like a champ.

On sunday Terry Diviacchi took her first solo flight around the pattern at Crow Island. At the age of 17 she is well on her way to become a sport pilot.
As if learning to fly trikes was not enough, Terry reciently completed racing school where she learned how to drive formula race cars. I would say she is not your typical high school girl.
